This post is meant for those using DirectAdmin which is relevant to those that sign up with our RM50 bloggers hosting package. This will make our job easier in case some would like to learn how to install it themselves. The respond is quite overwhelming and to install it for everyone is quite a hard work now.
It’s advisable to learn to install it yourself so that next time if you want to move your server or would like to start a new blog in other server, this will make it easier for you as those service providers will not help you install it, you have to figure out everything yourself. Even if you sent them an e-mail they will give you step-by-step tutorial or ask you go to the Internet to find the way to do it.
I will simplify the steps as the steps provided by Wordpress is a bit technical for some people, even it took me quite a while to digest it.
- Be sure to download Wordpress. Unzip them to your computer.
- Create a database. Go to your Direct Admin and then choose “MySQL Management“.
- “Create new Database“.
- Go to your unzip Wordpress folder, find the sample-wp-config.php, duplicate a copy for backup purpose in case you might accidentally delete some codes in there. You can open it with Notepad.
- Replace the username and password to your own database username and password.
- Rename it to wp-config.php
- Upload all the wordpress files in the folder to your server using FTP. Upload them to public_html folder.
- Go to your site. You will see Wordpress asking you to fill in some details to complete the setup.
- You will then receive an e-mail from Wordpress.
- Done! You can login with that details and change your password.
Easy right? So much easier than doing Maryland blepharoplasty. Happy blogging!
Tips:
There is no need to install FTP program as your web browser can be used as FTP. Just key in the URL given in your hosting confirmation e-mail. A dialog box will pop-up to request for your username and password. Key them in and you’re in!FTP is meant for you to upload files such as templates, plugins and also backup.
DirectAdmin is meant for server administration. You can view stats, create e-mail, manage and backup your database and so on.
